trifecta pie

chocolate_peanut_butter_pretzel_pie_1

I’m back with another dose of peanut butter and chocolate- again.  This time, in pie form with pretzels.  A true flavor trifecta.

chocolate_peanut_butter_pretzel_pie_2

This pie is pretty simple to throw together and there is nothing scary on the ingredient list.  A simple (delicious) pretzel crust, fluffy peanut butter mousse and dark chocolate ganache.  Best of all?  Zero bake time.  That’s right- you don’t even have to turn on your oven.

You may have noticed that I didn’t serve this “pie” up in a pie dish- which honestly happened for two reasons.

1. After hunting Brandy’s kitchen her pie dish has been declared missing.

2. This pie dish hunt led us to a discussion of pie dishes, and how hard it is to come by a pretty one- neither of us actually have a “pretty” pie dish.  (For as much as I bake this is seriously a crime in my kitchen.)

Therefor, the hunt is on.  (Seriously, why is it so hard to find a pretty dish without an ugly price tag!?!)

trifecta pie

Ingredients
  • Pretzel Crust:
  • 8 ounces salted pretzels
  • 6-8 tablespoons butter, melted (more or less depending on consistancy)
  • Filling:
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temp
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • Topping:
  • ½ cup bittersweet chocolate chips or pieces
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • crumbled pretzel pieces, for garnish
Instructions
  1. Make the Crust: Grind the pretzels in a food processor until finely ground, or place in a ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin. Pour in the melted butter until yiou achieve the texture of wet sand, and press into the bottom of your 9-inch pie pan. Chill in the freezer until ready to top.
  2. Make the FIlling: Whip the cream until stiff peaks form using your stand mixer or a whisk. Scrape from bowl and set aside.
  3. In a stand mixer (or with a hand mixer) cream together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and cream cheese. Once fully combined, add the whipped cream and mix together.
  4. Pour filling into the shell, and return to the refridgerator or freezer.
  5. Make the Topping: Heat the cream over medium-high heat until it is scalded. Pour it over the chocolate pieces in a heatproof bowl. Allow to sit one minute, then whisk together to form a ganache.
  6. Pour the glaze over the pie and top immediately with crushed pretzels. Refridgerate for 15 minutes to set the ganache before serving. Cover in plastic wrap and refridgerate to store, for up to one week!

easy smokey eyeliner

This season’s look is all about going bold without looking overdone.   A mostly bare face with a more natural contour effect and one wow feature.  Lashes in particular are a hot item for fall.  This smokey eyeliner effect is not only super simple but a great way to show off those lashes without feeling completely naked.

  1. Line the eye from the inner corner to the center of both the top and bottom with a white pencil.
  2. Grab your favorite colored eyeshadow (Shan used Mac Marsh) and angled brush and line the outer corner of eye, blending into the white in the center of top and bottom.
  3. Emphasize outer corner with a darker shade of shadow and blend (Shan used Crave from the Naked Basics palette).
  4. Finish with your favorite mascara.

Makeup is all about having fun and experimenting.  Don’t be afraid to use a statement shade for the color part of this look (electric blue liner is very in this season).  For an evening look go darker on the outer corner and pair with a super glossy nude lip.  Enjoy!

colored leather for fall

My head has been disorganized lately.  A million thoughts going in a zillion different directions.  I feel full of energy, ready to tackle the world, and within a blink of an eye become overwhelmed by the chaos in my mind.  Adjusting to two kids, a house with clutter in every corner and the fear of saying no surely does not help matters.  But yesterday was an utterly gorgeous day – one that should have been savored, enjoyed and taken slowly.  Yet I found it nearly impossible to be in the moment and simply breath.  That’s not acceptable.

Last week I stumbled across this smartphone detox pin.  Before we go further let me state that I am by no means anti-social media/smartphone.  I wholeheartedly enjoy all of it.  Probably a little too much, hence why I connected to this pin.  Much like a food detox you have to be ready in order for this to work.  Other than work related things I am going to give this detox the best shot I’ve got because I am indeed ready.  Hopefully it will lead me on a path to clearer thoughts and a more present existence.

f937920566878650481a8d3d1192038aWith today being Monday I am tidying the email – basically unsubscribing, unsubscribing and unsubscribing.  I do not need to be reminded everyday that Gap is having a sale or that Bath & Body Works is offering free shipping.  The time I spend deleting these emails on a regular basis could be freed for things I actually enjoy – like looking at fashion trends (which I did last night before bed).

Leather pants have been the hot item for a couple of years now – mostly in the traditional black shade.  This season leather of all shades is found in not only pants, but skirts, jackets, boots and accessories.  Burgundy in particular is strong (the trench coat below – hello fabulous) but I am also loving the greens and greys.  Whatever your favorite shade may be there’s a good chance you will find it in leather:

halloween for home

Last year Adelynn and Jettie started to love all things Halloween.  Specifically anything spooooky (in a wavey scary voice with dancing toddler fingers in the air).  With this October holiday rapidly approaching it seems their adoration has not diminished.  Lucky for them we love Halloween too.  And while crafting for October 31st is half the fun you can’t help but deny the fun decor in stores right now.  Whether it be for a party, gift or simply just for you, Halloween has never looked better.  From scary to cute here is a sampling of what you can find:

jettie’s first room

jetties_room_girls_nursery_7When Sticky and I were looking at homes I couldn’t help but ponder which room in each house would make a good nursery.  If life were to bless us with a baby I wanted to know where his or her space would be.  At that time we were committed, but not yet engaged, so I kept my nursery ideas to myself (talk about scaring off a man). I would proclaim that the smallest bedroom would be “a good place for the treadmill”.  This room did indeed make a good home for the treadmill.  Which worked out nicely because running gives a person a lot of time to think.  Will it become a space for a boy, or a girl?  What color will we put on the walls?  Where will the crib go?

As the years went by, and uncertainty began to creep in, the only thing this room symbolized was what we didn’t have…at least not yet.  Hope was never lost on this tiny little space for baby.  The day it officially became what it was meant to be, well, that was pretty amazing.

jetties_room_girls_nursery_1 jetties_room_girls_nursery_2Knowing we were about to have a little girl we wanted a room that not only looked like it was meant for a “her” but reflected us as a couple as well.  A space that felt soft, sophisticated, fun and sweet.  I didn’t know exactly how to put all those things together until I found her bedding fabric.  A larger scale floral in soft hues of grey, violet, pink and putty.  With that in hand the rest of the room fell into place.

jetties_room_girls_nursery_3 jetties_room_girls_nursery_4 jetties_room_girls_nursery_5 jetties_room_girls_nursery_6There are many things I could claim as my favorite in this space.  The gallery above her dresser, the bedding made by her Grandma Kim, the white armoire that fits so perfectly – I love it all.  But if I had to chose it would be the mix of patterns that I am most fond of.  For weeks I pondered over solid colored rugs and curtain textiles.  None of them felt right.  Once I decided on a graphic chevron for the rug I still couldn’t envision a solid shade for the windows.  Enter a bold black and white floral and somehow they all work together as they should.
