book themed easter baskets

When your babies are little (or even not so little) and you aren’t anxious to fill their Easter basket with chocolate bunnies, gum ball eggs and peeps just yet- you have to get a little creative with what you do fill their baskets with.  Based on our children’s book obsession, we’ve put together three baskets that all fit the theme of a favorite book.

With a book and a little creativity your child will have an amazing themed basket that will last way longer than the candy ever would.  Of course you can throw in a few jelly beans or chocolate eggs (kids always share their candy right?!).

Have a wonderful weekend!

lemons, lemons, lemons

14 weeks and baby is the size of a lemon, which is ironic because I have been drooling over lemons for weeks now.  Lemonade, lemon bars, lemon drop candies, straight up lemons.  You name it, I’m eating it.  I know I am wrecking havoc on the enamel of my teeth but I can’t stop!  So far, this pregnancy has really been smooth sailing.  I remember having so many food adversions with Adelynn, that Josh and I could hardly eat out for my entire first trimester.  This time around, no adversions and only one craving.. lemons.  Lots and lots of lemons.

Remember these incredible lemon bars?  I bought a bag of lemons last week to make them, and then accidently ate the whole bag before I got time to whip these up.  Back to the store for another bag…

Greek-Yogurt-Cream-Cheese-Lemon-Coffe-Cake-6

Lovely Little Kitchen has me itching to try this recipe out.  Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese Lemon Coffee Cake?  My coffee cake obsession just hit the roof.

6077059680_8f30849d53_bFinally, check out this Ginger Lemonade by Jul’s Kitchen.  Ive been adding a whole lemon to my water, which is weak sauce now that I’m staring at this.

With the the turn of my first trimester to second, spring also decided to make a very welcome appearance.  A bit premature, but we opened our windows and are really soaking up all of this fresh air.  All at once I can feel my energy returning, and I’m starting to feel “myself” again- which is such a relief.  The calendar says it is spring now, but I can feel a season change that has nothing at all to do with the weather or the calendar.  For us, this spring and summer will mark our last as a family of three.  We’re determined to fill it with memories, to make it a season of bliss and love.

diy hand scrub

DIY_HAND_SCRUB_1This winter has wreaked havoc on my sanity, patience and most literally my skin.  Naturally I have been cursed with dry skin, with the hands being particularly prone especially this time of year.  I can’t seem to keep them moisturized let alone soft.  Tired of using lotions with ingredients I can’t pronounce let alone comprehend I turned to my kitchen for some much needed dry skin relief.  With just a handful of ingredients (all of which I already owned) my hands have went from dry and cracked to soft and smooth.

DIY_HAND_SCRUB_2Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 cup fine sea salt
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

DIY_HAND_SCRUB_3Directions

  1. Stir together honey and coconut oil in small bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl combine sugar, salt and lemon juice until crumbly.
  3. Pour sugar/salt/lemon mixture into honey/coconut oil mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Store in a small glass air tight container.

recipe from The Nourished Life

DIY_HAND_SCRUB_4To use grab a marble size amount of scrub and slather all over hands for 30 to 60 seconds (be sure to scrub in between fingers as well).  Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

The coconut oil and honey moisturize the hands while the sugar and sea salt exfoliate.  Lemon eliminates odor and leaves the hands smelling fresh and clean.

DIY_HAND_SCRUB_5This scrub is a fabulously smart way to pamper your hands without breaking the bank.  Plus you know exactly what is in it so no harsh chemicals or unknown agents going into your skin (and ultimately your body).  Also makes a quick and easy homemade gift for mom, girlfriend or anyone you want to surprise with a little something special.  It is certainly my little treasure waiting for me above the kitchen sink.  You should definitely give it a try as well!

military and coral (27 weeks)

Can anyone tell me where March went? I feel as if it didn’t even happen and now here we are, on the very last day of the month. On most given days my goal is to not look as huge as I feel, with black being my best friend in that department. But today I needed color because today is going to be sunny and gorgeous.  It’s begging for color, and I aim to please.

maternity_jacket_maternity_style_bump_1 military_jacket_maternity_style_bump_2This day also marks the end of my second trimester (talk about things that are impossible to believe).  Less than 3 months to go, that is just crazy.  The last couple of months have been amazing which makes the ending of this phase of pregnancy bittersweet.  All that anxiety I felt at the beginning has subsided and finally I have enjoyed being pregnant much like I did with Jettie.  My heart and head have completely wrapped around this image of a little boy in our family.  It is hard not to smile every single time I think about it.  And as much as I will miss feeling his kicks and squirms (he is so very fidgeting like his dad) I can’t wait to see his little man face.
