frosty rose lids

A small beauty of our hometown is the peonies that can be found on every corner at the beginning of every June.  They mark the start of summer, a new season in full bloom, and they certainly are gorgeous.  Delicate beauties, as fast as they arrive, they are gone.. like the best things always are.  These rosey eyelids remind me of the peonies, and are perfect for summertime.

For this look, I used a MAC palette similar to this one, along with a frost shadow stick and a blending shadow brush.
To begin, use the frost white stick or shadow to fill the inner corner of your lid, and gently sweep it up along your brow.  Next, cover your lid with the lightest pink shade you are using.  Using a slight shade darker, color from the middle of your lid to the outter corner.  Finally, use the darkest shade to add definition to the outter corners of your eyes, and sweep through your crease to complete the look.  Finish off with liner and mascara!

This rosey look is perfect for darker eyes, pinks can be a bit tricky on fair shades, but experiment and try it out!  The key is finding the right shades, and applying them to highlight the shape of your eye.  Have fun with color!

{23 weeks} unspeakable love

trisomy_13_maternity_23_weeks_4bw

“There is a sacredness in tears.  They are not the mark of weakness, but of power.  They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues.  They are messangers of overwheming grief… and unspeakable love.”  -Washington Irving

23 weeks, and another ultrasound.  The profile of a little boy, up on the screen in front of us, his arms up over his face, just the way his sister always looked.  They turn the view so that he is looking right at us, one little arm tucked under his head, as if he is just laying there, looking at us as we look at him.  These images carve their way into my mind, into my heart.  He looks so peaceful, like he is trying to calmly tell us something.  I wish I could curl up next to him, and listen to his heart.  What would he tell me if he could?  What would I tell him?

I would tell him that we want him to stay, but understand if he can not.  That we love him, beyond measure and without boundaries.    I would tell him that he is everything his daddy wanted in a first son, and how brave we know he is.  I would tell him about the lives he has knitted together here on earth, the love he has taught us all.  I would tell him that in these months that I have carried him, he has carried me.

The reality of these ultrasounds is that regardless of what the doctors can tell us, there is so much that we cannot see.  A healthy heart does not hold any promises.  We are in the midst of a plan that only God knows.  I am wrestling with the frustration of the unknown.  The depth of this pain is not comparable to any pain I have ever known, this journey is so hard.  There are so many possible outcomes, none of which we will know for certain until he is here.  The balance of hope and acceptance is a thin line to walk.  We are so hopeful, we truly are.  But we also know the facts.  We have read the statistics, we know the challenges that we are facing.  We have accepted that God’s plan does not have to be understood, and that sometimes there are miracles, and sometimes you instead are handed grace and peace. We trust that with our whole hearts, our God is good.

These stories of heartbreak all seem to have the same silver lining.  Love that God intended us to have.. community that He intended us to be part of.  How blessed we are to know that love, firsthand.  In a world filled with sadness and evil it is so easy to forget the power of prayer.  The power of community.  The power of love.

trisomy_13_maternity_23_weeks_5a

I have been so moved by every single stranger that has approached me, with tear filled eyes, to hug me and tell me that they are praying for our little boy.  Every card, every hug, every prayer is healing our hearts.  Thank you.

With love,

shansig

36 weeks and june

June.  Despite all my doubts this glorious month has made it’s way into this pregnancy.  I wish I could go back in time, erase the uncertainty of the first 22 weeks.  Talk my mind out of telling my heart not to dream, not to be happy.  Wash away the anxiety and accept that this little boy does indeed have a safe home.  But I can’t.  What I can do is accept my priceless gifts and savor them for what they are – right here, right now.  And right now I can hold both of my babies, my miracles.  Life is good and it’s okay to feel it.

maternity_fashion_style_36_weeks_1 maternity_fashion_style_36_weeks_2 maternity_fashion_style_36_weeks_3 maternity_fashion_style_36_weeks_4There is a new energy in our home.  Change is impending and we are curious what a new member will bring to our family chemistry.  Jettie seems so ready for all of this – as if she has done it before.  Of course I worry about her, instantly losing so much attention to a new baby.  Yet I am confidant she will adapt (as we often forget kids so easily do).  More than likely it’s me who will have the hardest time adapting.  Adjusting to dividing time between my children.  For now I will take in every flower picking, dance session and giggle I can.  They are not to be missed after all.

2014 father’s day gift guide

With Father’s Day rapidly approaching (a little over two weeks from now, can you believe it??!!) now is the time to be securing that perfect gift for Dad.  Men can be incredibly hard to buy for – you want to get them something they will use but also love at the same time.  We have put together a collection of items we know our little ones’ Dads would love.  Hopefully something on here provides inspiration for all of you:

ultimate_fathers_day_gift_guide_ideas_20141Dollar Shave Club for a low monthly fee simply select a razor and poof – they arrive at your door (in cool packaging no less).  Perfect for the guy who can’t seem to remember that they need to replace their blades. 2Birchbox another monthly subscription except this time Dad will receive 3 to 4 grooming samples and a full-size lifestyle product.  Fill out a form creating his own personal profile and Birchbox does the rest.  We can attest that the female version is incredible, cannot imagine the male version being anything less. 3Klean Kanteen Insulated Bottle as advocates for removing as much plastic as possible from our daily consumption these bottles have been a favorite for years.  And we swear water tastes better out of them.  Athlete, camper, adventurer or simply someone who loves their beverages would appreciate this. 4Grady’s Cold Brew 2-Pack cool packaging and amazing coffee.  If you have a coffee lover for a dad he will for sure thank you for this bold, velvety-smooth taste of heaven. 5Moscow Mule Copper Mug the Moscow Mule gift kit Brandy J posted back in December has been one of our more popular gift posts.  What makes this mug different from the rest?  It can be personalized just for Dad. 6Wooden Personalized Beer Caddy Dad will feel extra special showing up to a barbeque with his own fancy beer carrier.  There are many versions of this out there but we love the personalization and look of this one (plus there’s a cute little bottle opener on the side).

Cheers to shopping for Dad!

our little green thumbs

The girls have both taken such an interest in gardening this spring, and we are having fun with it.  They have each potted little flowers, and slowly watched them grow and bloom in the sun.  The funny thing is, Brandy and I are about as far opposite of gardeners as they come- as badly as we would like to be,plants just don’t seem to to stand a chance in our care.  Maybe these little girls can teach us a thing or two!

Here are some fun tools that we love, to get your little ones started in the garden this summer!
kids_gardening_may_2014_1
1. Sassafrass Ceramic Pots, that you can paint! Paining your flower pots makes them extra special- and a fun craft you can do together! You could use just about any pot, and acrylic paint- but this set is fun, especially for gifting.  2. We love this fun watering can that looks a bit like a monster! 3. A few great little essenial tools, along with a tote to store and carry them in! Another perfect gift idea! 4. A sweet little book about flowering seeds, Oh Say Can You Seed!  5. These themed seed boxes would be great for both boys and girls, but we love the butterfly garden box! 6. Some bigger tools for helping in the yard or garden, that are just their size and come in bright fun colors!

I hope that these finds get you and your little ones out in the yard!  Gardening can be fun at any age!

shansig
